The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning decided to invest an additional 10 billion won by selecting eight competitive research projects in overseas markets. It is evaluated that the 'Global Creative Software' project, which the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning has been promoting since 2014, is gaining momentum.

According to the software industry experts, on the 27th, the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning selected cloud, security, translation, content management, enterprise software, and resource management as new tasks for the 2016-2nd GCS project. It recorded a high competition ratio of 8.5 to 1.

Looking at the eight research projects selected this time, two are cloud-related (Zionex and Tillon), including a technology development task that converts the existing supply chain management system (SCM) to a cloud-based and provides solutions to customers easily and quickly.

In addition, two information protection-related research projects (Infness Networks and Jiran Jigyo Security) were selected. A technology development research project for analyzing inherent security threats through machine learning analysis of mail and document content to improve security efficiency by visualizing the analysis results.

Also, technology in the fields of translation (Systran International), content management (Aion Communications), enterprise software (INNORULES), and resource management (Doalltech) showed an even distribution of one each.

Systran International developed a software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based translation platform that converges deep learning machine translation and human translation. Aion Communication developed a web content management system for the global market. INNORULES developed an intelligent rule simulation engine that can process a large amount of data and check the accuracy of rule contents and consistency of execution results.

After the signing of the agreement in December of this year, full-scale R&D will begin. Companies selected for this research project must report the progress of their R&D projects every month to the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning for 13 months. The budget support will stop if the monthly target is not implemented.

Earlier in April, the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning selected eight new research projects for the 1st-GCS project and decided to provide KRW 20.5 billion for 24 months. A total of sixteen projects are chosen and supported. 

The conditions for supporting the GCS project were limited to small and medium-sized enterprises in the SW field in the globalization stage this year. As for the fields, only the companies that have achieved a certain amount of sales or exports among any SW-related companies were allowed to participate. 

As a result of the additional investment of 10 billion won through the change of the fund management plan depending on the importance of this 2nd GCS project, 'SW-related average sales of 3 billion won or more or exports of 300 million won or more' or 'SW-related sales of 3 billion won or more in the previous year or Companies that export more than 300 million won were targeted.

Seo Seok-jin, director of software policy at the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, said, "As these companies were selected through a high competition, we expect that all of the companies performing the projects will succeed in advancing into the global market and grow into global software companies and even global star companies. We will establish a support system to help resolve difficulties and actively support domestic companies' global expansion."
